To act as a voice of the voluntary and community sector collectively.

To discuss issues raised by groups and organisations and take actions, if appropriate

To identify gaps and unmet needs in the voluntary and community sector in Swindon

To act as a platform for consultations

To network with other groups and share information

To invite guest speakers from local and national bodies on various issues

Terms of reference were agreed as follows:

The Forum meets four times a year

Membership of the Forum is open to any voluntary and community groups in Swindon

Voluntary Action Swindon will administrate, facilitate and organise the meetings in order       to ensure the Forum is sustainable.

Apart from using various existing consultative mechanisms and networks, Voluntary Action Swindon also uses the Voluntary and Community Forum to consult with and collate the view of the sector, in order to influence policy making and development of the public sector and local authorities.

The Forum was set up in March 2004. At its first meeting on 24th March 2004, it was agreed that the functions of the Forum should be:

Voluntary & Community Forum Report - 14th September

A Voluntary and Community forum was held on the 14th September in the Central Community Centre, Emlyn Square. Themed around Funding, the forum attracted many people from a variety of groups and, based on feedback from attendees, was very successful.

Voluntary & Community Forum - 14th September “Funding”

A Voluntary and Community forum was held on the 27th January at the Broadgreen Community Centre, Salisbury Street. The forum was arranged for late January to avoid clashing with the Stronger Communities Forum which took place early-mid January. The forum was a meeting of groups whose work may be threatened by the cuts, and to find ways of supporting one another going forward.

A Voluntary and Community forum was held on the 3rd May at Voluntary Action Swindon, John Street. The forum was themed around Sustainability, the forum attracted many people from a variety of groups.

Voluntary & Community Forum - Sept 2011 “Empower”

Voluntary Action Swindon’s next Voluntary & Community Network will be taking place on Friday 3rd February at VAS. The forum will focus on SBCs Consultation on Commissioning Community Services, with opportunities to network with colleagues in the Voluntary and Community Sector.
